Choosing the right size is the first step in buying a shipping container. This section groups our containers by length so you can compare footprints side by side, from small 6ft to 10ft units for homes and tight sites up to 40ft and 45ft containers for large-scale storage and commercial use.
Common shipping container sizes
- Small (6ft to 10ft): fit driveways, yards and narrow access points.
- 20ft: roughly 160 square feet of floor space, the most popular all-round size.
- 30ft: a middle option when 20ft is too small and 40ft will not fit.
- 40ft: roughly 320 square feet, ideal for bulk storage and business use.
- 45ft: extra length and high cube height for maximum capacity.
Before ordering, measure the placement area and allow extra room for the delivery truck to maneuver and for the doors to open fully. If you are not sure which size you need, think about what you will store, how you will load it and how much room you have for placement and delivery.
